Legal Document Assistant

LDA is the acronym for Legal Document Assistant. An LDA can work directly with the public in any area of the law. An LDA is also a UDA. Unlike Attorneys, we cannot give legal advice. What we can do is prepare documents at your specific request. Legal document assistance is offered to private parties and the general public.

An LDA is under very strict rules and regulations, governed by both the State of California and the County of Fresno. At a minimum, an LDA must have completed an accredited Paralegal Program. We are also required to qualify for a $25,000 insurance bond or supply the County with $25,000 cash before they will even consider licensing someone.

Once that is accomplished, we must also meet the State and County requirements to obtain a license to work with the public. We have educational requirements that must be met, and in some instances, employment requirements must also be met. It is not an easy hill to climb, which is why not very many people in my profession are not Bona Fide LDA’s. Working without a license will open that person up to a minimum of $2,500 per violation fine!

I cannot make any promises regarding the outcome of your court proceedings, but I do guarantee and warranty all of my work. I have been an LDA for over 16 years and love what I do, which is why my reputation is so important to me.

I look at it like this; I will benefit much more from our relationship if I do good work and you leave happy. Referrals are among the most important things to keeping my doors open!

At Attorney Alternative, our paralegal services are available to private attorneys and law firms throughout Fresno County. There are many benefits to working with a paralegal, but the most significant to our clients is the high-value, lower-cost services. As a paralegal is not an attorney, they do not have the ability to provide legal advice. However, since legal document assistants are held to such high standards and must follow strict legal requirements, they can provide you with the accurate legal paperwork you need for your court proceedings at a much lower cost than an attorney.

Our LDA, Regina Martinez, is available for various services, including:
